Gord's Guide to Pirated DVD Covers

MOVIE PIRATES- BOOTLEGGING AND MARKETING VIA THE COVER

In order to sell the bootlegs of their pirated movies, pirates have long been marketing their products by using the covers to attract customers.

However, their cover editing are seriously unprofessional; and at times unethical too. They would use extra images and words to attract buyers. Occasionally, buyer found themselves cheated by the images on the cover that suppose to represent the movie.

The Sequel to a Great Movie that Never Exist

I don't have any image for this one.

This method is employed due to the marketability of movies in association of older popular movies.
Most of the time, pirates do try to make you believe that there is a sequel to movies that you've seen before. What they would normally do is to add the extra name to the movie to make it look as if it's a sequel.

Eg:
-Final Destination 4: John Reunion Disaster
-Snake on a Plane 2: Snake Farm
-Brokeback Mountain 2: Happy Gay
-American Pie 5: Party Till Drop
-Alien vs Predator 4
-Juno 2

The Extra Characters on the Cover that Never Appear in The Movie

Quite often, the pirates will put in extra characters on the DVD covers. These characters can be skimpily dress hot chicks, fashion models or celebrities that does not in anyway associated with the movie. It is placed on the covers just to deceive buyers into believing they are part of the movie. This is one unethical con job.

Looks like there might be a wet t-shirt competition ala Girls Gone Wild going on in this movie...NOT!

Cuba Gooding Jr ....trying to shoot a Bimbo.

Look carefully, She has a Masculine Hand holding a gun
. ...Practically, there are two extra unnecessary layers here- The chick and the Gun.

I didn't see this skimpy chick in this movie.

Seriously, none of them on the cover appeared on this movie. The whole cover is fake.

The Extra Items that Never Appear in The Movie

This is a common editing done by the Pirates. There will be some extra items placed on the movie cover to attract buyers.
It could be:-
-Extra limbs: Hand to punch, Legs to kick- to depict it as action movie.
-Extra weapons: Guns, Chainsaw, Knife, Sword... just about anything to make it look action packed.
-Extra sexual flavours: Bras, Underwear, Lipstick Mark, Condom
-Extra horrifying images: Skeleton, 'Cradle Of Filth' Photoshot, extra hands, Japanese Long Hair ghost.
-Extra unnecessary images that does not appear in the movie at all.

These images does not appear in the movie. It is purposely placed on the cover to deceive buyers into thinking the content would appear in the movie.

Even if it's a shitty 2 hours drama, if they put a picture of a gun, you would think that it's an action packed movie.

Enterprise (Star Trek) appearance in Battlestar Galactica?

That's an add-on gun for the cover.

HARRY POTTER: THE LORD OF CARIBBEAN PIRATES

There are no Bra Stripping going on in this movie. This poker movie has no STRIP POKER.

The creepy image on the background came from some other movie.

Why is this skeleton hand appearing on a B-Grade 'slasher horror' movie? There are no ghost.

No Chainsaw in this movie.

COMMON MISTAKES ON THE COVER

Most of the movie-pirates are not English literate. What they would normally do is to pick up the images and texts off the Internet and place it on the cover; regardless of whether there are spelling, grammatical errors or just plain bad text. Occasionally, they even include some 'bad' reviews.

The Wrong Movie Titles

Here are some sample of movie titles that are either misspelled or intentionally misspelled.

50 'FIST' DATES

GALACTI 'G' A?

BECAUSE I SAID SO.... they added the extra D

CROUCHING TIGER, 'DIDDEN' DRAGON

Someone can't spell 'FATHER'

Sein FED UP.

There are no enough space for 'E' and 'S'

WENTY FOUR

The Dead Honest Reviews

Most of the time, the movie pirates would 'cut-n-paste' the review of the movie from the internet; well...by assuming everything written being good.

Occasionally, they will use 'user review' with bad criticism on the cover.

Read the review:
Front Cover:"It's not that the movie is bad. It's just innocuous"

Back Cover: "Today's street-smart moviegoing kids don't need to be shamelessly pandered to"

Read that review on red

"Oh God, Hell No... As much as I love playing D&D every Thursday night, the movie was GOD AWFUL"

The review:

"...you feel yourself trying too hard to make the film work"

The review on back cover of SAW:

"Don't buy the hype, just watch the trailer again and pretend that you saw a better movie"

The Entirely Wrong Reviews

There are times when the movie pirates surfed for the wrong movie and pasted the wrong review.

I'm not sure if that synopsis was for 'Catch Me If You Can'.

Sounds like it's for some porno flick.

Hey...check out the synopsis... For EXORCIST.

Al PACINO might be the priest.

I'm not sure if Michelle Pfeiffer (No 'T' in the name) is in both movie.

The Errors- Wrong Information,Spelling, Grammar or just Bad Text

Here are some collections of serious errors.

Grammatical Errors

This movie is absolutely Heart POUNSING!

See carefully, FANTASTIC 4,

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger..hehehehe

Al Pacione and Robeat De Niro

YES.. I IS WANTS REVENGE TOO.

?????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm not sure what that means.

Someone is hungry?

THE MISTAKEN PORN

Have you ever picked up a movie that you thought was perfectly normal, but turn out to be porn?

Movie Pirates occasionally packaged the spoof of popular movies porn into a mainstream design; which led you to believe that that's the movie you wanted to watch.

The name of the actor/actress sounds like some QWERTY errors.

You should have seen how she dodges cumshots.

This movie makes you go JAR JAR....BLINK!!!
Lesbians is going to love this Sci-Fi movie.
