Concert promoter blacklisted
KUALA LUMPUR: Concert promoter Pineapple Concerts Sdn Bhd has been blacklisted by the government from bringing in foreign artistes to perform here.
The Information, Communications, Arts and Culture Ministry said in a statement yesterday it would also apply to the Companies Commission of Malaysia to cancel the company's registration and blacklist the names of its directors.
This comes after the ministry's Central Agency for Application For Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes found that the firm was responsible for allowing three foreign groups to perform at a recent concert without a permit.
The groups -- Korn and N.E.R.D from the United States and Agrikulture from Indonesia -- performed at the Sunburst Music Festival at Equestrian Club in Bukit Kiara on March 21.
The authorities did not stop the show, but questioned the musicians and held their passports after the show. After negotiations, it was decided that it was the promoter's fault and so they were released.
The company is also held responsible for allowing spectators to dance on stage, selling liquor and cigarettes, and promoting the event before gaining approval.
"This is the fifth time they have gone against the rules. They did not take our warnings seriously."
It said Korn's heavy metal music and N.E.R.D's "erotic style" could damage the morals of teenagers.
"Agrikulture was not given approval because there were three other bands from Indonesia performing at the show."

Looks like our Government are a bunch of 'NO FUN people'.
You can't jump or dance around the stage,
can't show too much skin,
can't scream,
can't play loud music (unless you sing in Malay like XPDC)
can't GET YOUR GROOVE ON.
At least Turkey; a country with Majority Muslim, still has freedom to entertainment.
Here, they only allow BORING ARTISTES to take the stage.
MAWI, DANIEL, SUKI, JACKLYN????????? These reality TV stars.... Not even worth our effort promoting.
