-Well Wishes of Fortune to each other (Especially during Chinese New Year).
Somehow, 'fortune' seems to be the high-drive for RISK-TAKING.
They believed, if 'fortune came', anything will worth a gamble.
-They'll go crazy in the Casino.
-Put all their money into Stock Market.
-Sacrifice their baby's milk powder to bet on the right Horse during the race.

The Spirit of Chinese New Year and Funeral Gambling
There are two main occasions when Chinese family gathering turns into syndicated casinos at home.
They are Chinese New Year and Funeral.

Chinese enjoy the thrills of winning. They'll bet their entire bank account if it takes to rechallenge their losses.

Essentially, the idea of 'fortune' are implanted into their child's head since young. Most elders are more than happy to teach their kids how to gamble.
