Acute shortage of oncologists in Malaysia

From The Star Tuesday November 18, 2008

We need at least 200 oncologists but have only 39, says Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is currently facing an acute shortage of oncologists, said Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the ideal ratio should be eight oncologists per one million people.

“So for Malaysia’s population of 26 million, we should have at least 200 oncologists, but we have only 39 at the moment.

Hello Mr Liow,

We're only short of Oncologists?????
No
WE'RE BLOODY SHORT OF ONCOLOGISTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost everyone knows someone with cancer. Especially in a country where people hardly practice eating healthy food, and cigarette is available everywhere. Cancer seems to be taking lives everywhere.

Ratio of 8 to 1million population is not enough. We need a lot more oncologist.

Imagine just 1% population prone to get cancer. (That's 1 in everyHundred)
That's 1 oncologist for 1280 patients.

Furthermore, we only have 39 oncologists at the moment. That's 1 oncologist for 670000 population.
