Gong Hee Fatt Choy<--- Phonetically Wrong

In Malaysia, everyone, regardless of races, INCLUDING BANANA CINA, didn't know that "Gong Hee Fatt Choy" is actually Phonetically Wrong.

GONG HEE FATT CHOY is wrong...

"GHFC" is actually the most popular phrase to be used as for well-wishes during Chinese New Year. You may be said it like a thousand times, but, do you know what it means?

It actually means...." Wish You Prosperity".. or loosely translated as "GET RICH... YOU POORSHIT"

Chinese love Money (wealth). That's undeniable. Everywhere you go during Chinese New Year, there'll always be prosperity wishes. Hence, "GHFC" became the top phrase to be use.

But, do you really want everyone to GET RICH???
The world's not balance... there would be riches.. and there would be the poors.... Would you go up to Lim Kok Thay and wish him "Gong Hee Fatt Choy"??? That dude is already super rich.
Well.. you could still do that......but...why not just use "HAPPY NEW YEAR"?

Phonetically Incorrect

If you read "GONG HEE FATT CHOY" in the Malay pronunciation, it would sound like
.... "Kong Hi Fart Choi"

If you speak to a Chinese (especially Mainland or Taiwan) who don't use Roman alphabets. He/she won't understand what you just said. To them "Gong Hee Fatt Choy" would probably sound like "Your grandpa eat rotten vegetable"



Let me made this clear.... GONG HEE FATT CHOY is TOTALLY PHONETICALLY WRONG.... See the correction below:

Mandarin: Gong Xi Fatt Chai (Kong Shi Fart Chai)

Cantonese: Gong Hei Fatt Choy (Kong Hey Fart Choi)

Hokkien: Gong Hee Huat Chai (Kong Hi Huat Chai)

......
Even if you pronounce the phrase correctly, it would still sounds like a terrible-Mix of Hokkien, Mandarin and Cantonese.

SO...Please stop using "Gong Hee Fatt Choy", Use one of the above...and stick to one dialect.
Preferably, use mandarin... "GONG XI FATT CHAI"

Happy New Year = Xin Nian Quai Le

In the Chinese Lunar Calender, it's officially the new year for the Chinese. You can just wish them "Happy New Year".
You don't have to say "Happy Chinese New Year"..or in Chinese "Hua Ren Xin Nian Quai Le"..

Just say "Happy New Year" or "Xin Nian Quai Le"

Little did we know why Xin Nian Quai Le is not popular in Malaysia.
Everywhere you go... on billboards.. banners....greeting cards...all writes Gong Hee Fatt Choy or Gong Hee Fatt Chai
Well.. both are wrong... neither are phonetically correct..

The next time you see a cinabeng... just say in English "HAPPY NEW YEAR"
That'll work just fine.

If you want to be Phonetically Correct... The best way is to say
"Gong Xi Fatt Chai, Xin Nian Quai Le"
