Satellite used to fight illegal logging


The authorities are zooming in on forests with a satellite in order to fight illegal logging which the government says is harming the major timber exporting country.

Darus Ahmad, deputy director-general with the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency, said the "eye in the sky" programme was put in place in October.

Earth Viewer, a virtual globe is acquired by Google in 2004 has been around for quite some time.

With its renamed program, Google Earth, everyone can see satellite images for free.

I would have proposed the same system 4 years ago. Using a FREE system. Why need a remote sensing agency?
